Studio Miniatures public fund raiser

Studio Miniatures that makes some really cool zombie figures has a public fund raiser on the go to get some plastic zombies out on the market.

Studio Miniatures has gone with "Indiegogo" as the fund raiser rather than the more widely used "Kickstarter". This might be a very good move, as Indiegogo allows you to pay your support with credit card or paypal. Kickstarter only allows for the use of credit card - something I wont use online ever again.

I think I will chip in on this fundraiser - maybe paying in a few weeks.  They have 90 days to reach $5,000 and have $85 from two donors at the time I type.

Those interested can check it out here - and if you are interested and have a blog please do like myself and others are doing - mention it on your blog.

Mantic Zombies

My mantic games zombies turned up in the mail yesterday and I am very happy with them.

I will put up some photos and a review over the next day or so.

It is the Queen's Birthday long weekend here in Australia (unless you are in W.A.) so I will have a nice relaxing couple of days putting them together.

Today was a loss though - one day of my long weekend taken up firing a 21 Gun Salute for her Majesty, but that is ok, as I was paid for it, which means more $ for my hobbies.

Types of Zombies

Watching zombie movies is fun, but not all of them have the same kind of zombies.  Some of them are comical and others are just plain scary.

I prefer the shambling slow types of zombies - there are plenty of them, but you can run provided you have good aerobic capacity and somewhere safe to run to... generally speaking.

But, as a nice twist to the game I am thinking of various types, which could mean more than one reason for the zombie apocalypse.

"No More Room In Hell" has a few zombie types, and "Ambush Z"  has more (I forgot I have a copy of "Ambush Z" until I started typing this!), but I am thinking of adding some of my own.

One such idea is:

Ghouls: 1 in 100 humans when infected are not turned into full undead zombies. Rather these rare people don't suffer the same fate as normal zombies - they just mutate in to a 'living' version of a zombie. They move faster, have limited intelligence and can use basic weapons (not firearms, but clubs etc) - rather like the nasties from 'I am legend'.

Plastic zombies?

I am seriously contemplating getting a couple of packs of the Mantic Games plastic zombies. Each pack allows the buyer to make 30 zombies - but I think this includes the leg less ones (which is ok by me) and the ones without a torso (not so ok by me).

A Comment on the product page of the zombies on the Mantic games web site say "As an added bonus it lookss likein stead of 30 zombies, there are infact enough parts to make 40 from each set - false advertising at its best!"

If this is the case, them 60 - 80 zombies should be enough for my game... I hope.

On some forums people have "complained" that the zombies are wearing tattered rags for clothing, thus making them useless for modern zombie games, but I don't see a problem with it - these zombies could be ones that have been rotting in graves six feet under, or they have been catching their clothes on sharp objects as they shamble around.

I can always flesh out these zombies with more modern ones to add a bit of character.

Edit - I have ordered two packs from Wayland Games in the UK, so given a few weeks, my zombie hoards should start to rise in number.

Discount Hobby Zombies

I orders the Mega Mini Zombies a few weeks back from DiscountHobby.com and they arrived today.

I ordered the 20 zombies for $19.99 deal: link

I am very pleased with my new Zombies - not only have i added 2o zombies to my hoard, but i go them cheap too.

There is a tiny amount of flash to clean up on one or two of the figures, but not that much you need worry.

Some of the zombies are a little bigger than the Eureka Miniature ones i bought, but not some much so that i can't use both at the same time.

Once i get a few painted up i will post a photo with them next to the Eureka Miniature Zombies to make a height comparison for those wanting to see how the two brands mix in together.
