PBB - End game

My apologies for the delay in finishing the game - life and other projects got in the way.

anyway, here is how I played the game out:

Robert takes aim an fires at the zombies near by, taking the closets too him down.

Lucky adopts a stabilized position in the back of the pick up, takes aim and hits two zombies, the first shot killing the intended target, the second shot is only a wound.

Karen turns and moves to the corner of the farm house, and fires into the remaining zombies between the survivors and the pick up.

The last two zombies go down, clearing the road of the shambling undead.

Blink moves next to Karen for mutual protection.

Sandi moves to the far side of the yard he is in, keeping the wall between him and the zombies.

Leila moves down the road to where Robert is standing.

The zombies move ever closer as seven more appear near the ice cream truck and the billboard end of the road.

Sandi leaps over the wall and bolts down the road to the pick up, with Robert and Leila close behind.

Karen and Blink sprint down the road and make it to the rear of the pick up.

“come on” yells Jack. “Lets get out of here!”

The zombies moan almost as if annoyed that their dinner is getting away as they shamble in an effort to feed on those tasty braiiiiins.

With a reduction in gun fire only three additional zombies appear, this time near the river.

With many helping hands the survivors on the road climb and or are dragged into the back, people piling on top of each other.

“Go! Go! Go!” the yell as one.

Not waiting a second, Jack ‘floors’ the pick up and they make their escape.

 This ends the PBB game.

From my point of view I enjoyed the game, but holidays and the Christmas period kind of killed the momentum and flow of the game.

If any of the players feel like posting comments on the game please do so.

Was it too long?

Did you like the way the orders and rules were submitted and played out?

Did you want more control over your survivor? Like creating your survivor and choosing which figure to use?

Would you play another game?

Is there anything else you would like to bring up about the game?

If there is enough interest in this game (and other type of settings) I will be happy to 'ref' the game, maybe even a small group of one or two players.

Anyway, I hope every one enjoyed the game, both players and readers of the game.

EDIT

I forgot to mention. There were many things on the playing area that survivors could have interacted with to gain victory points (not that I ended up listing what VPs the players gained :-P  )

The newspapers near the dumpster - anyone reading them would have learnt more about what had caused the zombies.

The big truck... so glad you didn't open the back. It was full of zombies going to a research lab... which an inspection of the truck cabin would have turned up a shipping invoice.

Food could have been collected from the ice cream van.

Investigation of the toxic waste flow would have been awarded a VP for insight as to what was happening.

The gas bottle in the walled farm yard (the one near the ice cream van) could have been used as a bomb.

I had great fun when the chickens were overlooked in the heat of the moment as a food source.

And just one not related to VPs - I was surprised no one asked for molotov cocktails as their extra special item. Even not knowing the rules, the AAR I posted should have been a good hint as to how affective they are ;-)

I really enjoyed the game, and I think you did a good job on umpiring it, the comments I would like to make are:

It would have been cool to be able to create our character and maybe choose his skills from a pool of skills, aswell as been able to pick the miniature that represents, assuming the rule set allows for this.

I knew very little about the rule set you used, so maybe a review on the mechanics might have been helpful for me.

Zombies were not very competitive they didnt score even one kill, not sure why, maybe the terrain was too open or there were not enough dead ends !

I think when you play online the terrain should be small and the obj's simple, that way we will either get eaten by the zombies quicker or we would complete the obj's quicker, otherwise games online can drag once they get past the two month mark, at least thats what we found when we did Car Wars online.

I think the way the orders and rules were submitted worked really well, simple and effective.

would I play again...Hell yes for sure ! and thanks for hosting this one, thats enough from me.

no problem - the more detail the better in planning the next game.

The main reason I made up the characters is because not many people have the rules I was using, but in retrospect I could have come up with a 'lite' info sheet to allow players to make their own.

I can include a review on the mechanics in an intro as well.

The zombies - they came close at one stage, but as they never really came into hand to hand that often, the kill rate didn't happen.

Maybe if the zombies moved faster next time? rage zombies? hmmmmm

I would like to try a game on a smaller area, as it tied my playing area up for that time, which meant I couldn't do much else.

I could play a two sided game with opponents submitting orders and I just roll the dice - that could make for a much more interesting game.

I enjoyed it. A great laugh with some great people. Choosing skills etc sounds a good idea especially the 'Lite' version. I do have NMRIH but am yet to play it so far.

I think with there was quite a few characters so it was like a small army going up the zeds maybe that why they never got close enough

Thank you mate! I had fun in being a part of this.

I liked how we could say what our character did. And I do so love how many of us interacted with each other. Clucking chickens!

I am on for another game and would not mind holding on to Blink.

To make it more challenging, next time there could be a possibility of a rager or two.

A few things I forgot to mention, so I will edit the post and let on what they were...

@ Lord Siwoc - I loved the Blink character a lot.

I would be happy to let you play him in another game.

Same goes for any ones' character.

Although I'd never played these rules before, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

For me, the main highlight was the interaction between Karen and Blink (Lord Siwoc) whose constant bickering and bantering made the characters seem real. I'd happily play Karen again, especially if Blink makes a return.

My only niggle is that sometimes the wait between turns got to be too long, but I do understand that real life must take precedence and often the delays were unavoidable.

Even so, I have nothing but praise for the way you ran the game. Well done, Shelldrake!

Priority was for Blink to survive, help the others and eat Tic Tacs. All 3 were a success!

I do see now that there was a lot more we could do. But we had zombies enough in my opinion! I am soooo happy that no one opened the big truck!!!

Fun game Mate for us all! Great scenario.

Shelldrake thanks for running the game. I had alot of fun and enjoyed it. I would definitely play any other game you put on.

I felt even though I did not know the rules I could give you basic instructions and you interpreted them within the rules. I liked that so we did not get bogged down in the mechanics of the game.

Also one question, I assume the kid from the ice cream truck made it out to. Who was he and why was he there? We wasted alot of time saving him :)

Shelldrake said...

The kid on the ice cream truck was just a survivor that needed rescuing and would gain the players a VP is they did so.

He failed morale checks when he was told to come down off the roof.. that is why it took ages to get him.

I think it was an awesome idea, harking back to the 'olden-days' of PBM, great job sir!

It was a great game and nice job from you to play the game master. Sad we hadn't the time to "interact" with all the "easter eggs" you put in the scenery.
